Nivedita Chander (1960-2015)

The life and achievements of Nivedita Chander, known to all of us as Sonu and from whose name SOnu CHander the name of our foundation SOCH is derived, has inspired us in our initiative to create equal opportunities for differently abled children.

Trained initially as a Montessori Teacher Sonu went on to qualify as a special needs educator. She started special needs education with learning disabilities and continued from there to work with children with mental and physical disabilities too.

SOCH Foundation aims to follow the same path. Our initial work is focussed on young children with learning disabilities who with proper assessment, planning and remediation can indeed be integrated with the main stream. We have started our journey with schools run by the State Department of Education and the Municipal Corporation.

Sonu combined her Montessori training with her special needs training and developed her own unique style of remediation with a high success rate. SOCH foundation takes inspiration from these methods and we hope to integrate all the learners in the main stream to ensure they get equal opportunities in life.

Sonu with her sharp wit and open communication formed strong bonds. Her students were always highly motivated and their parents became active participants in their learning.

There were no dull moments in her class and in her life.

SOCH foundation is built on her beliefs and ideals. We hope we can impact lives as she did.
